Walter Crenshaw and Erik McMorrow present a check from AFSCME Local 3282 for $500 to Stephanie Mellring, Recreation Coordinator for the Community Services department at Peoria. Mellring will use the funds to purchase supplies for a recurring game of Peoria Nerf Wars at the Peoria Community Center, an event that is sure to become a popular recurrence for kids at the center.

AFSCME members will also be volunteering Sept. 15, assisting Mellring and her team in assembling the elements needed for the game. Members who would like to volunteer, even for just an hour, are invited to show up at the Community Center anytime between 9 a.m. and when the work is done. The Peoria Community Center is at 8335 W. Jefferson St. in Old Town Peoria.
